I’m halfway through training for the Big Sur International Marathon and if I’ve learned one thing so far, it’s that training for a marathon can be lonely. I do the majority of my long runs and training runs alone and while I can find zen and peace on the long run, it can be challenging. However, in the end, when I’m standing at the starting line on April 28, I’ll take solace in knowing I did everything in my power to get there on my own. And to me, there’s no greater accomplishment than that.

Monday Motivation: Don’t Stumble Over Something Behind You
Sometimes, the past has a way of creeping up into the present. Unfortunately for me, this happens more often than I would like. I have gotten better at not letting the past impact my present or the future but it always helps to have a little reminder. I have big dreams and goals for the future and I can’t let something (or someone) in the past cripple my future. I’m moving fast and I have no time to stumble.
Monday Motivation: Blown Your Own Mind
Well, this weekend, I blew my mind and ran 16 miles- my longest distance ever. If you told me a year ago I’d be training for a marathon right now I would have laughed in your face. Running was never something I thought I’d be able to do but here I am training for a marathon, and not just any marathon, Big Sur! So do it, once in a while, blow your own damn mind. Happy running and training this week!

Monday Motivation: Never Give Up on a Dream
Dreams and big goals take time and hard work to achieve. A friend this weekend said she couldn’t imagine training for a marathon because of the time it takes. To me, I know it takes a lot of time, but that’s what makes the achievement and success of finishing 26.2 miles even sweeter. So, there’s no way I’m giving up on my Big Sur dream. I’m going to enjoy the crazy ride that is training and relish in the finish line. Dream big and happy running!
Monday Motivation: Draw a Map and Run
It’s been a VERY busy last couple of days with the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend I went to with Runner’s World but it was an amazing weekend. I ran the half-marathon (race recap to come later) and hit a HUGE PR! The race gave me the confidence to go forward with the 2013 run resolution a little sooner than I planned (again, post to follow) but I’m feeling good about it and can’t wait to start. Meanwhile, a little Monday Motivation is always good and I saw this graphic on Pinterest and had to share it. Run strong this week!
Monday Motivation: There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather
This is an important reminder for winter running. While it might feel better to sleep in and snuggle in your bed on a cold Saturday morning, you’ll feel much better when you come home after a nice long run. You can always warm up with a warm cup of hot chocolate for the rest of the day! Happy running this week!
Monday Motivation: I am Stronger
Happy Monday and New Year’s Eve everyone! To me there’s nothing better than New Year’s because it’s a fresh start and a time to look back on the year you had and what you can do to improve in the upcoming year. I’ll do a resolutions post later on this week when I actually nail them down but I want to hear yours! What promise are you making to yourself in 2013 and how will you stick to it? Whatever your resolution is for 2013, I wish you a strong, happy and transformative new year!
